dental implants inverness - Eilertsen Dental CareIf you’re considering dental implants, you may wonder, “Am I a suitable candidate for dental implants?” Let’s embark on this journey and discover if dental implants are the right choice for you! From good oral health to adequate bone structure, we will explore the essential considerations that contribute to a successful dental implant treatment.

Key factors that determine if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants

Oral Health

Good oral health is crucial for the success of dental implant treatment. Candidates for dental implants should have healthy gums, free from periodontal disease or any active infection. Periodontal disease can compromise the stability of dental implants and hinder the healing process. It is vital to address any existing oral health issues before undergoing dental implant treatment. Regular dental check-ups and a diligent oral hygiene routine are essential in maintaining optimal oral health.

Bone Structure and Density

Another critical factor in determining candidacy for dental implants is the presence of adequate bone structure and density in the jawbone. Dental implants rely on osseointegration, the process where the implant fuses with the jawbone, for stability and support. Sufficient bone volume and density are necessary to ensure successful osseointegration. If you have experienced significant bone loss, your dentist may recommend bone grafting procedures to enhance the bone structure before implant placement.

Age

Age alone does not disqualify you from dental implant treatment. As long as you are in good overall health and have adequate bone density, dental implants can be a suitable option at any age. However, it is essential to consider other factors such as systemic health conditions and healing capabilities that may vary with age. Older individuals may require additional evaluations and precautions to ensure successful implant treatment.

Systemic Health Conditions

Certain systemic health conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and bleeding disorders, can affect the healing process and the long-term success of dental implants. It is crucial to discuss your medical history with our dental implant specialist to assess how your systemic health condition may impact the treatment. In some cases, with proper management and clearance from your medical doctor, dental implant treatment may still be possible.

Smoking

Smoking is a significant consideration when it comes to dental implant candidacy. Smoking has been associated with a higher risk of implant failure and complications. The habit can impede the healing process, compromise blood flow, and increase the likelihood of infections. If you are a smoker, it is advisable to quit smoking or at least reduce smoking significantly before undergoing dental implant treatment. Doing so can enhance the chances of a successful outcome.

Great dentist and hygienist, however the waiting room had no wifi (and no signal) which meant I couldn’t work when waiting. When I asked if there was wifi, I was just told ‘no’ by the receptionist. I was going to add a suggestion to the box, but there was no pen.

I have attended this practice for many years and I never fail to be impressed by the quality of the work carried out by both the dentists and the dental hygienists. Procedures are explained clearly and in such a friendly manner. And most importantly despite having some major work carried out on a few occasions I did not feel any pain during, or after, the treatment. I would also like to pont out that the reception staff are so efficient, friendly and most helpful. This is an outstanding dental practice.
