Dental implants have emerged as a remarkable solution for individuals seeking a permanent and natural-looking replacement for missing teeth. With their success rate reaching up to 98%, dental implants have gained popularity for their durability and aesthetic appeal. However, concerns about the possibility of dental implants loosening over time can create uncertainty among prospective patients.

Can dental implants loosen over time - Eilersen Dental Factors Influencing Dental Implant Stability

Bone Integration: The Foundation of Implant Success

The integration of the implant with the jawbone is essential for its long-term stability. This process, known as osseointegration, ensures that the implant becomes a part of the jawbone structure. Factors like bone density, quality, and proper surgical technique play a significant role in successful osseointegration.

Proper Surgical Technique: A Crucial Element

The skill and precision of the oral surgeon performing the implantation procedure greatly influence the outcome. A well-executed surgical procedure minimises the risk of complications and maximizes the chances of successful osseointegration.

Oral Hygiene and Care: Key to Longevity

Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is crucial to prevent infections and complications that could lead to implant loosening. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups are imperative to the health of both the implant and surrounding tissues.

Lifestyle Choices: Impact on Implant Health

Lifestyle factors such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can negatively affect implant stability. These habits can compromise blood flow to the gums and bone, hindering the healing process and potentially leading to implant failure.

Signs of Implant Loosening: What to Look For

While dental implants are designed to be long-lasting, certain signs may indicate potential issues with their stability. These signs include discomfort, mobility, pain while chewing, and changes in the alignment of the implant-supported tooth.

Preventive Measures: Ensuring Implant Longevity

Regular Dental Check-ups: Monitoring Implant Health

Frequent dental check-ups allow professionals to monitor the condition of dental implants and identify any potential problems early on. This proactive approach enables timely intervention and ensures the longevity of the implant.

Excellent Oral Hygiene: The Ultimate Defence

Adhering to a strict oral hygiene routine is essential to prevent infections around the implant site. Regular brushing, flossing, and the use of antimicrobial mouthwashes help maintain optimal oral health.

Diet and Lifestyle: Supporting Implant Stability

A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients supports overall oral health, including the health of implants. Avoiding excessive biting forces on implant-supported teeth and refraining from habits like teeth grinding further contribute to their stability.

Great dentist and hygienist, however the waiting room had no wifi (and no signal) which meant I couldn’t work when waiting. When I asked if there was wifi, I was just told ‘no’ by the receptionist. I was going to add a suggestion to the box, but there was no pen.

I have attended this practice for many years and I never fail to be impressed by the quality of the work carried out by both the dentists and the dental hygienists. Procedures are explained clearly and in such a friendly manner. And most importantly despite having some major work carried out on a few occasions I did not feel any pain during, or after, the treatment. I would also like to pont out that the reception staff are so efficient, friendly and most helpful. This is an outstanding dental practice.
