Can You Save Money By Getting Dental Implants in Turkey 2The prospect of jetting off to Turkey for dental implants, a nation celebrated for its rich history, scenic beauty, and more recently, medical tourism, is an increasingly popular concept. There’s no denying that on the surface, Turkey offers tantalisingly low prices for dental implants, which can appear as a boon for those seeking to combine a bit of sightseeing with their dental procedures. But while the immediate cost savings are clear, is it a financially sound decision in the long run?

Initial Cost Savings

There’s no denying the immediate appeal. Dental procedures in Turkey, including implants, can be significantly cheaper, sometimes by up to 70% compared to the UK. This is due to lower labour costs, reduced administrative fees, and different regulatory landscapes. Coupled with the idea of combining the treatment with a holiday, the proposition is enticing for many.

The Hidden Costs and Considerations

As with most things in life, if something seems too good to be true, it often is. While upfront savings are attractive, several hidden costs and potential pitfalls might chip away at those initial savings:

  1. Follow-Up Treatments: Once you’re back home, should complications arise or adjustments be required, you might need to pay for additional treatments. In such cases, your local dentist might charge a premium, especially if they’re rectifying someone else’s work.
  2. Travel Expenses: While the cost of the procedure might be lower, you must account for flights, accommodation, local transportation, and other living expenses. These can significantly narrow down the gap between the costs in the UK and Turkey.
  3. Lost Work Days: If you’re employed, you might need to take extra days off for your trip. These lost workdays can add to the “cost” of the procedure.
  4. Warranties: Dental implants often come with a warranty. It’s much easier to claim this from a local clinic than one abroad. If there’s an issue with an implant from Turkey, you might find yourself paying for repairs or replacements in the UK.
  5. Risk Factor: If, in a worst-case scenario, the implant procedure doesn’t meet the standards you expect, rectifying any issues can be time-consuming and costly. The long-term implications on your dental health could also lead to additional treatments and expenses down the line.

Are Those Social Videos About Dental Implants in Turkey Trustworthy?

You must have come across slick and polished videos promoting dental implants in Turkey. Those clips, often brimming with testimonials, picturesque views of Turkish landmarks, and state-of-the-art dental facilities, can make the prospect of jetting off for a dental procedure appear incredibly appealing. But how much trust should you place in these glossy videos?

The Power of Marketing

First and foremost, it’s essential to remember that social media is a powerful marketing tool. These videos are crafted with one primary goal in mind: to sell. Professional videography, strategic editing, and compelling narratives can make anything look appealing, but they don’t always present the full picture.

Factors to Consider

  1. Bias and Authenticity: It’s inherent in marketing materials to showcase the best and omit the less favourable. Testimonials may be genuine, but they could also be cherry-picked or even staged. Without a balanced view, it’s hard to gauge the actual quality of the service.
  2. Production Values vs Reality: High production values in a video don’t necessarily equate to high standards in a dental clinic. A beautifully shot video might not reflect the day-to-day reality of a clinic or the experiences of its typical patients.
  3. Hidden Reviews: Dig deeper. While a video might sing praises, it’s beneficial to seek out independent reviews on trusted platforms. Platforms like Trustpilot or even Google reviews can provide a more unfiltered view of patient experiences.
  4. Regulatory Standards: Remember, regulatory standards can differ from one country to another. The UK has stringent guidelines and oversight for dental procedures, governed by entities like the General Dental Council. It’s crucial to research how these standards compare in Turkey and whether the clinics uphold similar benchmarks.
  5. Ask Questions: If a video piques your interest, don’t hesitate to reach out to the clinic directly. Ask them about their credentials, the specific procedure, aftercare, and any warranties or guarantees. Their willingness to answer and the depth of their responses can be very telling.

Can UK Dentists Fix Issues from Turkish Dental Implants?

Well, it’s a bit complicated. You see, the materials used might differ, making it tricky. Local dentists are cautious due to liability concerns. Treating problems from abroad could have insurance implications. If they do help, it might cost more as they need to ensure quality without being accountable for work done elsewhere.

Great dentist and hygienist, however the waiting room had no wifi (and no signal) which meant I couldn’t work when waiting. When I asked if there was wifi, I was just told ‘no’ by the receptionist. I was going to add a suggestion to the box, but there was no pen.

I have attended this practice for many years and I never fail to be impressed by the quality of the work carried out by both the dentists and the dental hygienists. Procedures are explained clearly and in such a friendly manner. And most importantly despite having some major work carried out on a few occasions I did not feel any pain during, or after, the treatment. I would also like to pont out that the reception staff are so efficient, friendly and most helpful. This is an outstanding dental practice.
