Invisalign aligners have become a popular choice for orthodontic treatment due to their discreet nature and ability to straighten teeth effectively. To ensure the success of your Invisalign journey, it is essential to take proper care of your aligners. By following a few simple steps, you can keep your aligners clean, maintain good oral hygiene, and protect them from damage.

Daily cleaning of your Invisalign aligners is crucial to keep them fresh and hygienic. You should rinse your aligners with lukewarm water every time you remove them from your mouth. This helps to remove saliva and plaque. It’s important to avoid hot water as it can warp the aligners.

Using Invisalign cleaning crystals is another effective way to clean your aligners. Simply dissolve the crystals in water as per the instructions and soak your aligners for the recommended duration. This helps to eliminate any bacteria or stains, leaving your aligners clean and clear.

While cleaning your aligners, it’s essential to avoid using toothpaste or coloured mouthwash, as they can discolour or damage the aligner material. Stick to mild, unscented soap or the Invisalign cleaning system specifically designed for aligners.

Maintaining good oral hygiene

To ensure the health of your teeth and gums throughout your Invisalign treatment, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene. Brush and floss your teeth thoroughly twice a day, especially after meals. This helps to remove any food particles that might get trapped between your teeth and the aligners.

After each meal, clean your aligners to prevent staining and to keep them fresh. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles and a gentle toothpaste to brush your aligners. Avoid abrasive toothpaste, as it can scratch the aligner surface and make them more visible.

Drinking water frequently throughout the day can also help to keep your aligners clean and minimize dry mouth. It aids in washing away food debris and reduces the risk of cavities and bad breath.

Storing your Invisalign aligners

When you are not wearing your Invisalign aligners, it’s important to store them properly to avoid loss or damage. Always keep the aligners in their provided case when they are not in your mouth. This protects them from accidental breakage or being thrown away accidentally.

Additionally, ensure that the storage case is clean and dry to maintain the hygiene of your aligners. Clean the case regularly with lukewarm water and mild soap, and let it air dry. Avoid using hot water or harsh chemicals as they can degrade the case material.

Handling aligner discomfort

During the initial days of wearing new aligners or switching to a new set, you may experience some discomfort or soreness. This is normal and indicates that the aligners are working to move your teeth. Over time, the discomfort will subside as your mouth adjusts to the aligners.

If you experience significant discomfort or sharp pain that persists, consult our dentist for guidance. We may suggest using dental wax to smoothen any rough edges on the aligners or provide other solutions to alleviate the discomfort.

Keeping track of your aligners

Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of aligners that are changed every few weeks. It’s crucial to keep track of your aligners and follow the recommended schedule provided by us. This ensures that your teeth move according to plan and you achieve the desired results.

Creating a simple tracking system, such as a calendar or a reminder on your smartphone, can help you stay organized and avoid any confusion or delays in switching to the next set of aligners.

Wearing your aligners as directed

To achieve the best results with your Invisalign treatment, it’s important to wear your aligners as directed by our dentist. In most cases, aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day. This allows sufficient time for your teeth to gradually shift into the desired positions.

Be diligent about wearing your aligners consistently and avoid unnecessary prolonged breaks. Consistency is key to the success of your Invisalign treatment.

Regular dental check-ups

Throughout your Invisalign treatment, it is important to continue visiting our dentist for regular check-ups. We will monitor your progress, make any necessary adjustments, and ensure that your teeth and gums remain healthy.

Regular check-ups also provide an opportunity to address any concerns or questions you may have about your Invisalign treatment. We can offer valuable guidance and advice to ensure you are on track to achieve your desired smile.

Great dentist and hygienist, however the waiting room had no wifi (and no signal) which meant I couldn’t work when waiting. When I asked if there was wifi, I was just told ‘no’ by the receptionist. I was going to add a suggestion to the box, but there was no pen.

I have attended this practice for many years and I never fail to be impressed by the quality of the work carried out by both the dentists and the dental hygienists. Procedures are explained clearly and in such a friendly manner. And most importantly despite having some major work carried out on a few occasions I did not feel any pain during, or after, the treatment. I would also like to pont out that the reception staff are so efficient, friendly and most helpful. This is an outstanding dental practice.
