A radiant, white smile can be a game-changer. It can transform your appearance, boost your self-esteem, and make you feel ready to take on the world. Tooth whitening is a popular choice for achieving this transformation, but it’s important to understand that the existing colour of your teeth and the nature of your stains play a crucial role in determining if you’re a suitable candidate for this procedure.

Why Existing Tooth Colour and Stains Are Critical for Tooth WhiteningUnderstanding Your Tooth Colour

We all dream of having pearly white teeth, but the reality is that natural tooth colour varies greatly from person to person. Some of us have teeth that are naturally more yellow, while others might have a greyish hue. Your unique tooth colour can significantly influence the effectiveness of tooth whitening.

For instance, yellowish teeth tend to respond well to whitening, while brownish or greyish teeth may require more intensive treatments or may not respond as well. Understanding your natural tooth colour will help set realistic expectations for the outcome of the whitening process.

The Nature of Your Stains

Not all stains are created equal. There are two main types of tooth stains: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic stains are surface stains caused by factors like coffee, tea, wine, tobacco, and certain foods. These stains are generally easier to remove and respond well to tooth whitening.

Intrinsic stains, on the other hand, are located within the tooth itself. They can be caused by factors like certain medications, trauma, or overexposure to fluoride during early childhood. These stains are more stubborn and may not respond to traditional whitening treatments.

The Role of Your Dentist

Your dentist, Eilertsen Dental Care, is your partner in the journey towards a brighter smile. We will assess your tooth colour and the nature of your stains to determine the most effective whitening approach for you. If you have stubborn intrinsic stains, we may recommend alternative treatments, such as veneers or crowns, to achieve the desired result.

The Journey to a Brighter Smile

Your tooth colour and the nature of your stains are key factors in determining if you’re a good candidate for tooth whitening. By understanding these factors, you can set realistic expectations and work with our dentist to choose the best path towards your dream smile. Remember, every smile is unique, and what matters most is that your smile is healthy and makes you feel confident and beautiful.

Great dentist and hygienist, however the waiting room had no wifi (and no signal) which meant I couldn’t work when waiting. When I asked if there was wifi, I was just told ‘no’ by the receptionist. I was going to add a suggestion to the box, but there was no pen.

I have attended this practice for many years and I never fail to be impressed by the quality of the work carried out by both the dentists and the dental hygienists. Procedures are explained clearly and in such a friendly manner. And most importantly despite having some major work carried out on a few occasions I did not feel any pain during, or after, the treatment. I would also like to pont out that the reception staff are so efficient, friendly and most helpful. This is an outstanding dental practice.
