Veneers are a popular solution in cosmetic dentistry designed to enhance the appearance of your teeth. They are thin, custom-made shells crafted from dental-grade materials, typically porcelain or composite resin, which are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. Veneers can dramatically improve the aesthetics of your smile, offering a natural and healthy look.

Benefits

Veneers offer a multitude of benefits, making them a preferred choice for many seeking to improve their smile. They are particularly effective in:

  • Covering discolouration that can’t be addressed by teeth whitening.
  • Repairing chipped or worn teeth, restoring their natural appearance.
  • Closing gaps between teeth without the need for orthodontics.
  • Correcting minor misalignments, offering a straighter smile without braces.

Types of Veneers

At Eilertsen Dental Care, we offer a variety of veneer options to suit your unique needs and preferences. Our selection includes:

  • Porcelain Laminate Veneers: These are highly durable and resist stains better than other types of veneers. They also closely mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth, offering a very realistic appearance.
  • Composite Veneers: These are less expensive than porcelain veneers and can be applied in a single visit. They are also easier to repair if damaged.

Our experienced dentists will help you choose the best type of veneers based on your dental health, aesthetic goals, and budget.

Procedure

The veneer procedure at Eilertsen Dental Care is a comprehensive process that typically spans over two visits. The first visit involves a detailed consultation where we discuss your aesthetic goals, examine your teeth, and determine the best course of action. We then take an impression or digital scan of your teeth, which serves as a model for crafting your custom veneers.

During the second visit, we carefully bond the veneers to your teeth, ensuring a perfect fit and a beautiful result. Our dentists are meticulous in their work, paying close attention to detail to ensure your veneers look natural and feel comfortable.

Cost

The cost will vary depending on your individual requirements, for instance, the number of veneers you require and the material chosen. Composite veneers are typically less expensive than porcelain ones. Our dentist will discuss your choices and any associated costs after your initial consultation.

If you wish to spread the cost of your treatment, payment plans are available at Eilertsen Dental Care. Do get in touch with us for further details.

Regardless of the veneer type you opt for, you need to be certain it’s the right choice for you. Our seasoned dentist will guide you through the advantages and disadvantages, and advise if an alternative treatment might be more appropriate for you.

Care and Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance of dental veneers are essential to ensure their longevity and to keep your smile looking its best. Here are some guidelines to follow:

  • Oral Hygiene: Maintain good oral hygiene practices, including brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Floss between your teeth daily to remove plaque and debris, ensuring your veneers and natural teeth remain healthy.
  • Avoid Stain-Causing Foods and Beverages: Limit your consumption of stain-causing foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, and coloured sauces. If you do indulge in these items, try to rinse your mouth with water afterward or use a straw to minimize contact with your veneers.
  • Quit Bad Habits: Avoid habits that can potentially damage your veneers, such as biting your nails, chewing on hard objects like ice or pens, and opening packages with your teeth.
  • Wear a Mouthguard: If you engage in contact sports or grind your teeth while sleeping, consider wearing a mouthguard to protect your veneers from potential damage.
  • Regular Dental Check-ups: Schedule regular check-ups with your dentist for professional cleanings and to assess the condition of your veneers. Your dentist can identify and address any issues early on, preventing further complications.
  • Avoid Teeth Whitening Products: Dental veneers do not respond to teeth whitening treatments. Therefore, avoid using over-the-counter whitening products on them to prevent uneven coloration between your veneers and natural teeth.
  • Address Any Issues Promptly: If you notice any issues with your dental veneers, such as chips, cracks, or discoloration, contact your dentist immediately for a proper evaluation and necessary repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do dental veneers last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental veneers can last between 10 to 15 years or even longer. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene practices are important for their longevity.

Can anyone get dental veneers?

Most individuals are suitable candidates for dental veneers; however, a comprehensive dental evaluation is necessary to determine your eligibility. Our dental professionals at Eilertsen Dental Care will assess your oral health and discuss whether veneers are the right option for you.

Are dental veneers permanent?

Dental veneers are considered a permanent cosmetic dental solution since a small amount of enamel is usually removed from the teeth to accommodate the veneers. However, they may need to be replaced or repaired over time due to wear or damage.

Does getting dental veneers hurt?

The process of getting dental veneers is usually painless. Local anesthesia may be used during the preparation stage, where a small amount of enamel is removed. Afterward, you may experience some temporary sensitivity, but it is typically minimal.

How long does it take to get dental veneers?

The timeframe for getting dental veneers can vary depending on factors such as the number of veneers needed and any additional dental treatments required. Typically, it takes two to three appointments spread over a few weeks to complete the veneer process.

Can dental veneers fix crooked teeth?

Dental veneers can improve the appearance of slightly misaligned teeth. However, if the misalignment is significant, orthodontic treatments such as braces or Invisalign may be recommended to properly align the teeth.

Can dental veneers stain?

Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining and maintain their color well over time. However, composite resin veneers may be more prone to staining, and certain habits like excessive coffee, tea, or tobacco use can affect their appearance.

Are veneers reversible?

No, dental veneers are not considered reversible. The process of getting veneers typically involves removing a small amount of enamel from the teeth to accommodate the veneers. Once the enamel is removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth, it is not possible to restore the teeth to their original state without replacing the veneers. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider and discuss the decision to proceed with veneers with us before undergoing the treatment.

Great dentist and hygienist, however the waiting room had no wifi (and no signal) which meant I couldn’t work when waiting. When I asked if there was wifi, I was just told ‘no’ by the receptionist. I was going to add a suggestion to the box, but there was no pen.

I have attended this practice for many years and I never fail to be impressed by the quality of the work carried out by both the dentists and the dental hygienists. Procedures are explained clearly and in such a friendly manner. And most importantly despite having some major work carried out on a few occasions I did not feel any pain during, or after, the treatment. I would also like to pont out that the reception staff are so efficient, friendly and most helpful. This is an outstanding dental practice.
